Welcome to the Car Design News Newsletter for March 2011

We've just returned from the 2011 Geneva motor show with renewed optimism. Unlike Detroit, which generated a lot of hype for what turned out to be rather less new products than we'd hoped, the Geneva show was a true return to form, with debuts of all-new vehicles occupying various market segments.

But Geneva wouldn't be complete without the seemingly never-ending stream of concept cars filling the halls of the Palexpo. Every year the Swiss show's neutrality is the perfect breeding ground for the French, Italian and German automakers to strut their future visions for mobility.

And while this 81st recurrence of the Swiss motor show not only saw Jaguar celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic E-Type and the first Italdesign vehicles created under the stewardship of Volkswagen, it also heralded a significant step forward for Car Design News' coverage of motor shows.

Our new 'CDN Live' section provides the exclusive motor show coverage you've come to expect from Car Design News, but also opens up a whole new world of interactive content - including videos and comments we've never previously featured on CDN. Our coverage from Geneva was so well-received this time around that we'll be continuing to bring you motor shows in this format. But feel free to pipe up if you don't agree - send me an email to editor@cardesignnews.com

 CDN Webinars

As part of our successful ongoing series, CDN will host a new webinar entitled Realtime Design & Engineering Reviews Using High-End 3D Visualizations, on Wednesday 6 April 2011.

New visualization and simulation technologies are minimizing dependence on physical prototypes, which in turn create massive cost and time savings. Manufacturers can perform comprehensive reviews of design and technical concepts directly on a virtual model in realtime and with life-like quality; a virtual process that allows for more rapid and reliable product development and enables short-term decision making.

Presented by RTT experts Jan Bodenstein, Senior Engineering Consultant, and Boris Koller, Product Manager, the webinar will provide comprehensive insight into different techniques for conducting efficient design and engineering reviews. They will include comparison of variants, geometry analysis, simulation of fluid dynamics, ergonomic evaluations and immersive applications in their presentation.

The webinar will start at 16h30 CET, 15h30 UK time, 10h30 EST, 07h30 PST and 23h30 in China.
